Syria dismisses Iraqi charges it shelters bombers

09/01/09: VoA reports that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has dismissed Iraqi allegations that Syria has been sheltering people suspected of planting deadly bombs in Iraq. Mr. Assad said that for Syria to be accused of killing Iraqis while it houses some 1.2 million Iraqi refugees is an immoral and politically motivated accusation.

08/28/09: Agence France-Presse reports that Iraq said on Thursday relations with Syria will not improve until its neighbour gives up terrorists it says plotted a devastating bombing in Baghdad and are being harboured by Damascus. Bilateral relations effectively collapsed on Tuesday when the countries withdrew their envoys in the wake of massive twin truck bombings in Baghdad, which Iraq says were orchestrated in Syria.
