11/11/09: The Telegraph (UK) reports that under a new law in the UK, 653 public bodies will be given access to records of every customer’s personal communications, showing who they have contacted, when and where, as well as the websites they have visited. All telecoms companies and internet service providers will be required by law to keep a record for one year.
10/18/09: The Guardian
reports that a British government program aimed at preventing Muslims
from being lured into violent extremism is being used to gather
intelligence about innocent people who are not suspected of involvement
in terrorism. The information the authorities are trying to find out
includes political and religious views, information on mental health,
sexual activity and associates, and other sensitive information. (HT
