07/24/12: The American Civil Liberties Union will join a discussion on the FISA Amendments Act (FAA) this Wednesday, July 25, at the Cato Institute. Joining Cato and the ACLU will be Senator Ron Wyden (D-Or.) and New York Times reporter Eric Lichtblau. The FAA, passed in 2008 and up for reauthorization this year, gave the National Security Agency almost unchecked power to monitor Americans’ international phone calls and emails. The ACLU, along with Senator Wyden, is urging Congress to institute stronger privacy protections before reauthorizing the overbroad law. The ACLU’s constitutional challenge against the FAA, Amnesty et al v. Clapper, will be heard by the Supreme Court in its next session.
When: Wednesday, July 25, 2012
12:00 PM (luncheon to follow)
Where: The Cato Institute
1000 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20001
